Calories count!

I just did a little middle-of-my-first-week weigh in, and it looks promising! Not going to reveal anything yet – too soon, too soon!

But it does seem that a little bit of exercise and not overeating has a positive effect. The previously mentioned pizza is being stretched to at least 3 meals – I could probably have managed it in one not so long ago…

Here’s an interesting factoid – in one slice of Dominos Veg Supreme, there are approximately the same number of calories as a bowl of pasta. And I feel that pasta is the more filling of the two options.

That said, in a fully prepared Pot Noodle, there is something like 450 kCal – which is going on for 3 slices of pizza/bowls of pasta, and I don’t feel that it seems like that much. This is the reason a lot of people overeat – the things they DO eat do not satisfy them, so they crave more. And more. And more.

So I’m now on a quest to find a tasty, satisfying, healthy, moderate calorie diet – and by diet, I mean style of eating, not cutting everything out! It’s back to ‘everything in moderation’ again!

Sunday – day of rest!

Today, I think I will take it easy! Been watching my calories and getting some exercise since the 1st, but by yesterday my legs were definately starting to feel the strain. My calf muscles (especially the smaller left one) have had a good workout this week with plenty of step training and quite decent length walks.

I got a pedometer a couple of days back, which tracks how far you’ve walked and approximately how many calories it will have burned. The heavier you are, the more calories you burn from walking, as you have more weight to carry round with you! According to this device, I burnt 650 kcal just from walking yesterday – but this did not help my aching calves. From my (limited) knowledge of exercise/training/sports, I appreciate there is no gain without pain, but I am also aware that the idea is to work your muscles and then give them time to recover – and I haven’t done the recovery yet. Leaving your body in a permanent state of injury is not the best way to get healthy!

So today, I’m going to take a little break. I will continue watching my calories, but will not be running up any hills!
