Steve Jobs, The National Enquirer and Health Rumours

Not the Apple of Steve Jobs

apple Steve Jobs, The National Enquirer and Health RumoursThe National Enquirer has an article showing photos they claim are Steve Jobs. The man in the photos is certainly wearing the traditional jeans and black turtle neck, but is only shown from behind and at an angle. You can see he’s wearing glasses and has greying hair. In another shot, it’s clipped so you can only see his hand over the pocket of his jeans.

The man in the photos bears a passing resemblance to Mr Jobs, but he also looks like a 70 year old dressed as the Apple boss. From what you can see of his face, there appear to be deep wrinkles around his cheek and jawline. That’s not the Steve Jobs I know.

There is a possibility that this is Steve Jobs in the pictures. There’s also a slim chance it’s Elvis.

I’m not an Apple fanboy. I appreciate what they do, and in no way dislike them. On Windows, I think iTunes is too resource heavy – but there are a lot of non-Apple programs that are too resource heavy. I like Steve Jobs…but I also like Steve Wozniak. Go figure.

Steve Jobs is certainly ill – he is currently taking time off from Apple to “concentrate on his health”, although reports indicate he is still seen in the offices and works from home too, so not exactly “time off”! Further rumours have started as he was due to meet with President Obama yesterday (Thursday 17th Feb 2011) and no photos from this meeting have yet emerged.

I think this is more of a reflection on the current state of society than Mr Jobs health – no news is supposedly good news, so how is no photos now construed as bad news? Steve does not need to prove he is healthy to anyone other than himself – and possibly his wife and his doctor – but the media obsessed world feels a need for every single thing to be documented in words and pictures.

It is a sad event when anyone is ill and potentially dying. It’s sadder still to speculate about the potential death of one of the tech legends of our time without any concrete evidence of what you are spouting.

In summary: Steve Jobs has quite openly been ill, and will hopefully continue to get better. The National Enquirer often finds Nazi boats on the moon. No photos being released means no photos have been released, not someone is dying and it’s a secret.

If we subsequently find out the Mr Jobs is indeed very ill, then I offer no apologies – at this stage we know nothing, and I certainly hope he is well.

Now, media, get out there and report some real news.
